REVIEWS | GAME GEAR
Fourth generation | 1990-1997 | Cartridge
Games: 365 | Sales: 10.62m
SEGA’s foray into the handheld console market resulted in the Game Gear. It’s 8-bit colour screen and hardware specs meant it shared a lot of software with SEGA’s Master System platform. The most powerful handheld ever on-release, it convincingly outsold the Atari Lynx, but struggled against the market share of the older Game Boy. 6 AA batteries providing for just a few hours of play has been cited as a contributing factor towards consumer uncertainty.
