The Switch saw Nintendo deliver one of its most successful consoles. With around 5,000 games, it sports the biggest library of official releases of any console in history. Described as a hybrid system, the Switch allows gamers to use the system as a portable or a home console via docking capabilities. The Joy-Con controllers detach from the tablet-like screen, offering versatility and multiplayer options. The pads received criticism for issues with stick drift, as well as Nintendo’s enduringly expensive software and the prevalence of ‘code in box’ physical sales. In 2019, a budget Switch Lite was released, integrating the controller into the console but removing its docking capabilities, positioning the model as a handheld. Nintendo’s exclusives once again spearheaded its software line-up, with Super Mario Odyssey the highlight.
