REVIEWS | SNK NEO POCKET & COLOR
Fifth generation | 1998-1999 & 1999-2001 | Cartridge
Games: 9 & 73 | Units sold: unknown & < 200,000
The Neo Geo Pocket handheld was quickly abandoned with only 9 game releases. It was swiftly followed by a Color variant, which enjoyed a cult-following. The system impressed with its style and proved a technically robust competitor to the Game Boy Color, with 2 AA batteries allowing for 40 hours of play. The NGPC received a number of portable-specific entries in the Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown and SNK vs. Capcom series. However, poor sales would see SNK exit the hardware race in 2001.
