REVIEWS | XBOX SERIES X
Ninth generation | 2020- | Blu-ray, digital
Games: 563 (as of January 2025) | Units sold: 28.3m (as of June 2024)
The Xbox Series was Microsoft’s fourth home console, following on from the Xbox One. Like the competing PS5, support was slow initially, with the COVID-19 pandemic reducing games production, whilst eighth-generation systems enjoyed continuing software support. Whilst Starfield and Halo Infinite were met with mixed receptions, the Xbox Series would be bolstered by the likes of Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Note: we specifically list our coverages as Xbox Series X, as this is Microsoft’s ‘benchmark’ ninth-gen system, and the one we use to test the games. With the Series S featuring an inferior CPU and graphics card, we cannot guarantee the level of performance will remain the same – so none of our reviews claim to be reflective of how a game might play on the digital-only system.
