REVIEWS | MEGA DRIVE ; GENESIS
Fourth generation | 1988-1997 | Cartridge
Games: 879 | Sales: 30.75m
SEGA’s 16-bit Mega Drive (Genesis in North America) system was the successor to their Master System, and the company’s most successful system worldwide. It’s chief competitor was Nintendo’s SNES, and saw its popularity propelled by the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage & Road Rash, and boasted an array of arcade ports. The MD would receive a moderately successful CD add-on, the Mega-CD (SEGA CD in North America), as well as the poorly-received 32X cartridge expansion.
