Remember the whistleblower who tips off Miles in the main game? Outlast’s first piece of DLC follows that individual as his cover is blown, and he attempts to escape the asylum. A prequel-cum-sequel that starts before the main game but finishes after it, it’s a pretty similar experience to the original game. That means you’re in for some terrifying sequences, including one where a delusional “Groom” hunts you repeatedly. In fact, there are moments which are even scarier than the original game, such as when Waylon is injured but still being ruthlessly pursued. The game remains thick in atmosphere and tense, utilising many of the same strengths as the core game. That being said, it can be questionable value for money, as it costs just over seven pounds, and lasts just under two hours. But Insane difficulty is present again for the masochistic, as well as further documents and notes. Those who fell in love with Outlast and are hankering for more will certainly find value in Whistleblower, and it links together nicely with the original game, making its brevity and price easier to forgive.
